Tryouts for the 2023-2024 Season
LYBA is pleased to announce tryout dates for the 2023-2024 season. Dates and times are detailed below for both boys and girls grade levels, and please note that boys must attend BOTH ratings nights unless otherwise specified.
The first three nights of tryouts will be held at Lexington High School in the main gym and field house, with check-in taking place outside the main gym 15 minutes before each session. Lexington High School is located at 251 Waltham Street.

7:30-9:00 PM – Boys 6th grade

Thursday, September 28th

7:00-8:00 PM – Girls 7th and 8th grades

The last night of tryouts will be held at Lexington Christian Academy, with check-in taking place in the lobby 15 minutes before each session. Lexington Christian Academy is located at 48 Bartlett Avenue.
Thursday, October 5th
6:00-7:15 PM – Girls 5th grade
6:00-7:15 PM – Boys 4th grade
7:30-8:30 PM – Boys 5th grade
For those new to the program, we will have 2 weeks of tryouts and then form teams, with the goal of notifying all players by mid-October. We are a competitive travel organization, usually with 2 teams of boys and 1-2 teams of girls for 4th-8th grade, due to limited gym space. As such, we do have to make cuts sometimes.
Teams practice 2x per week, starting in mid-November, with 1-2 games per weekend in December through February, with playoffs the first two weeks in March. Players are expected to make a commitment to their team, attending all practices and games.
Lastly, there have been a lot of questions about players playing up a grade. LYBA’s general policy is to have players play with their academic grade. Occasionally, players will be called up to play in a game or two with the grade above, if they need players and we think it could be good for a player’s development.
